Back to Basics

The mission of Back to Basics is to raise a child’s self-esteem, keep kids in school, enable self-sufficiency, and invest in our future, all through the simple gesture of providing the necessities. One year, 15,000 underprivileged children from 45 Palm Beach County elementary schools received new uniforms for a total of over 150,000 uniforms since the program started. The “Angel Program” provides new sneakers, socks, underwear, and a toy for over 7,500 children every year. Underprivileged children’s names are provided by schools and those name tags with size, age, and sex are distributed to Palm Beach County churches before Christmas. The “basics” are purchased by individuals for that child and returned to that church to be picked up for delivery to the school. Any child not “adopted” by an individual is taken care of by Back to Basics directly; no child is left out. Since 1984, Back to Basics has provided over 200,000 gift packages. The Society sponsored about 70 children per annual event.
